This morning finds me in a very suburban Starbucks, dressed in an expensive white shirt, expensive black slacks, an expensive tie, and thrift-store black shoes I resoled via superglue last night. The clothes and Starbucks are new to me, and thanks to the phenomenal job I recently got!
That's right! I am no longer trudging through forty hours of retail hell to make just enough money to make my ends meet. Nope! I now work a big person job, with big person, 9 to 6 hours, and Sundays and Mondays off. This new position has very specific, professional wardrobe guidelines, hence the higher price of most of the pieces I'm wearing today, and is situated in a cool location here in the Valley. I'm very close to downtown Gilbert, which is beginning to gain international culinary acclaim. Trés bon.
Today's post has two purposes:
1: I wanna show you all that I'm still alive. For whatever reason, people are still coming to this blog, and in much higher numbers than I anticipated! Therefore, I wanted y'all to know that this is still a thing, and that, with my new job and all, I'm hoping to be able to get to it three or four times a week, like in the good old days. Thanks for your patience, and I ask for just a bit more as I figure my new life out.
2: I wanna show myself that this is something I'm still capable of doing. I'm forcing myself to contribute something here, so that I get re-familiarized with the process. Things are getting better. This blog should get better, too.
As far as other news goes, there are a few developments which I wish to share with you. The first is a musician I've very recently started falling in love with, though I've been listening to one of her songs for over a year. The artist is Vérité, and she's awesome. The first track to grab my attention was "Strange Enough," a dark, electro-pop song that starts off subtle and calm, but which builds rapidly into a big-synth production with Vérité crying out- "strange enough- I don't love you like you want me to!" which, to me, isn't a perspective we hear too often in songs, and which is both refreshing, and heartbreaking. Last week, she released a new track entitled "Sober," which is a somewhat-dangerously optimistic song about a breakup that was for the better. It was this second, attention-grabbing song that officially piqued my interest and led to me looking up all her work. To my delight, there wasn't a huge back-log of songs to listen to. Instead, Vérité has released a handful of tracks scattered over a couple EPs- an hour's worth of listening at most. I like this, as it feels like I caught her on the cusp of of something big. If you're interested in cutting your teeth with this relatively new musician, give this song, "Weekend," a listen. It's deceptively upbeat, and I like the way her voice rasps with intensity in some parts of it.

Other new music you should be aware of is Chvrches' sophomore album, "Every Open Eye," which was released on the 25th of last month. It's phenomenal- a worthy follow-up to 2013's unexpectedly iconic "The Bones of What You Believe." EOE is more pared-down then their previous work, as well as a bit more optimistic. I'm in particular love with the track "Clearest Blue," which danceably details a near-crippling anxiety attack- extolling the fear, distress, and dependency of the situation, before turning itself around and laughing in anxiety's face with an infectiously sassy drop. Other tracks to listen to are "Leave a Trace," "Never Ending Circles," and "Bury It."
In not-so-exciting music news, I'm quite upset to admit that I will not be going to see Florence + the Machine in concert this Tuesday. The last few months of financial stress made it impossible for me to get tickets to the show that I've been wanting, for five years, to see, which is a real bummer. However, there will be other tours, other albums, and it'll be worth it to finally be able to see my absolute favorite musician live, when I finally get the chance to do so.
otherwise, I've mostly just been spending all the time I can with my best friend Sandi, her amazing 18-month-old baby boy, and a certain somebody I met about three months ago, and whom I'm liking more and more every day.
I've also recently discovered the dollar menu a Taco Bell- an actual life saver.
Anyway, thanks, guys, for sticking around. Again, I was shocked to see how many of you are stopping by to regularly check in, and it's a big motivator to keep on keepin' on. I love it.
Until next time, Much Love,
Adam
(PS I'm pretty sure I'm grossing every suburbanite in this Starbucks out with my thick chest coughs that I'm fairly certain can be attributed to an allergy-induced respiratory infection. Hawt damn.)
(Oh! And happy 10th of Halloween! To those of you bravely serving in the skeleton war, I metacarpally salute you!)
