It's the New Year! What a great time to get started on this project. You see, I've been planning this blog for quite some time. I thought to start this blog almost a year ago, while I was doing volunteer work in South Africa. My friend (whom you will be introduced to shortly) and I were talking about life and what we wanted to get out of it. It was a new friendship, so we were having that fun conversation where we share interests and personal philosophies and realize that we have a lot in common. One thing that we share is an obsession with Harry Potter. Another thing we have in common is a desire for a life filled with adventure and unique experiences. Nine-to-five suburban life, while it may be perfect for others, is not really a goal for my friend and me. We want our lives to be "continuous, casual adventures." We don't believe that an adventure has to be especially grand or expensive or exotic to qualify as an adventure. We feel that we can find a modicum of adventure in our every day lives by exploring those things (via internet, friends, trips, books, etc.) that are interesting to us. Whether those interests include fashion, travel, food, service, music, health or whatever, there is always something new to be discovered and enjoyed.
This blog, and what will follow later, is the start of those adventures. I first thought it'd be a great way to hold my naturally lazy self accountable, a struggle that can sometimes be of epic proportions. I also thought this would be a fairly simple blog, with me just posting a few words about the fun I found each day. The more I thought about the blog, however, the more I realized that it can be so much more. I realized that this piece of web-space doesn't have to just be a simple blog, but a way for me to help others with my same dreams and ideas to realize them, if not only by providing inspiration. So that's what I'm going to try to do.
To help me do this I've assembled a small team (seriously, small- so far there's only three other people involved), and what we're going to do is find a way, every day, to explore our interests, do something fun, and then share those experiences with you. But first, a few introductions are in order:
First on the team is Nathan, from Arizona. Nathan is the aforementioned friend; we met while volunteering together in South Africa. He's awesome and one of the coolest, classiest people I know. He's a talented writer and photographer, and wickedly hilarious. His wanderlust and way-more-hipster cred will color his contributions to the blog.
Second is my long-time friend Robert, who currently lives in Pennsylvania. Robert and I met in high school, sophomore year. I can't say we were insta-friends. In fact, Robert initially hated me. Like, for almost two years. Yikes. Thank goodness I became friends with someone who later became Robert's girlfriend, because now Robert's basically part of my family and I couldn't imagine not having him as a friend. He and his girlfriend are still together, by the way. They're going on six years. Aw. As good of friends as we are, though, our friendship is not what makes him part of the team. Robert is a computer genius/tech-savvy brotha and will bring techno trend smarts to this project. He is very excited.
Someone who is going to be helping us behind the scenes a lot is my mother, Teri. Equipped with genius, 20+ years of public relations experience, and a killer ability to write, my mama brings a lot to the table. For free. (That's the best part.) She lives in northern Arizona, where I'll be for the next couple weeks.
Now, don't worry. You all will get to know these wonderful people more and more as time goes on- starting with the personal introductions they will post to the About page, found up top in the tabs.
As for me, my name is Adam. I'm twenty-two years old. I love art and creativity. I have a special passion for fashion, books, movies, visual art, food, and music. I'm decidedly eccentric and not very shy about it. I will be moving to Utah very soon (a great new adventure) and am looking forward to this blog and the life I have ahead of me. Hope you are too!
Much love,
Adam
