I'd like to apologize for not writing a music post on Monday. My mind was just not in a place to begin to write a review of anything; there's been an interesting development in my life, and it's taking getting used to. Don't worry, though, it's definitely a good thing, and one that y'all will most likely be reading about in time. I just wanna give it time to grow and breathe a bit before I share.
I will tell you that I've decided against writing about Florence + the Machine's new single, "What Kind of Man," (Even thought I'm absolutely in love with it). I'll hold off until June 1st, when Flo's newest album will be released and I can review it in its entirety. That blessed day cannot come soon enough- I'm planning on going into full listening-hermit mode for the month of June. No one will see or hear from me until July. Well, a few people might. Like my customers whenever I have to go to work, or the people I like enough to pause Flo and socialize with.
In other music-related news, I've actually been going back and giving a serious listen to a couple artists whom I've been interested in forever, but whom I haven't actually taken the time to seriously consider until recently. Two of the most prominently-played artists on my playlists are Foxes and Sky Ferreira. If you haven't given these two singer/songwriters a bit of your time, I suggest that you do so. Foxes debut album, Glorious, is a pretty great introductory album. It has its ups and downs, but when it hits, it hits hard and fun. Her cavernous disco and intriguing lyrics make for a musical experience that's just different enough from what you've heard before to make you want more. I highly suggest "Talking to Ghosts," "Youth," and "Let Go For Tonight." Sky Ferreira, on the other hand, is an artist I've been keeping tabs on for years (in fact, it was while looking her up that I stumbled across Florence + the Machine), but who finally released her critically-acclaimed debut album, Night Time, My Time in 2013. I'm in love with it's fast-paced, grungy, 80s-inspired rock sound, and her simplistic, honest lyrics. Not to mention her full, sneakily-impressive voice. I believe this album is slowly becoming one of my very favorites. Some particularly fantastic tracks are "Heavy Metal Heart," "I Blame Myself," and "Boys." Both of these albums are older news, but very much worth your time.
I'm still working on my To Do: 2015 list, little by little, and plan on really getting into it once I've taken care of boring, adult responsibilities (taxes, buying a car, finding an apartment, blah, blah, blah). I've managed to make a little bit of headway on some of my smaller goals- like putting my dream, white bedroom together. However, due to other financial responsibilities, it's a slow work in progress. I'm also still trying to make healthier lifestyle choices- like biking to this Starbucks instead of driving, and enjoying an unsweetened drink, along with a tall ice water and a super yummy cheese, fruit, 9 grain cracker, and nut bistro box, instead of one or two cookies and a sweetened liquid confection- and am still seeing and feeling the differences it's making.
I'll do my best to get a Friday Favorites post up this week. There are definitely things I'm enjoying, and I want to share some more of them with you! I hope this little update post gives you a few things to think about or inspires you to do something you've been meaning to do for a while, even if it's just listening to cool, new-to-you music.
Much Love,
Adam
