A Casual Adventure
I thought to start this blog some time ago while I was doing volunteer work in South Africa. My friend, Nathan, and I were talking about life and what we wanted to get out of it. It was a new friendship, so we were having that fun conversation where we share interests and personal philosophies and realize that we have a lot in common. One thing that we share is an obsession with Harry Potter. Another thing we have in common is a desire for a life filled with adventure and unique experiences. Nine-to-five suburban life, while it may be perfect for others, is not really a goal for my friend and me. We want our lives to be "continuous, casual adventures." We don't believe that an adventure has to be especially grand or expensive or exotic to qualify as an adventure. We feel that we can find a modicum of adventure in our every day lives by exploring those things (via internet, friends, trips, books, etc.) that are interesting to us. Whether those interests include fashion, travel, food, service, music, health or whatever, there is always something new to be discovered and enjoyed.
This blog, and what will follow later, is the start of those adventures. I first thought it'd be a great way to hold my naturally lazy self accountable, a struggle that can sometimes be of epic proportions. I also thought this would be a fairly simple blog, with me just posting a few words about the fun I found each day. The more I thought about the blog, however, the more I realized that it can be so much more. I realized that this piece of web-space doesn't have to just be a simple blog, but a way for me to help others with my same dreams and ideas to realize them, if not only by providing inspiration. So that's what I'm going to try to do.
To help me do this I've assembled a small team (seriously, small- so far there's only three other people involved), and what we're going to do is find a way, every day, to explore our interests, do something fun, and then share those experiences with you. But first, a few introductions are in order:
First on the team is Nathan, from Arizona. Nathan is the aforementioned friend; we met while volunteering together in South Africa. He's awesome and one of the coolest, classiest people I know. He's a talented writer and photographer, and wickedly hilarious. His wanderlust and way-more-hipster cred will color his contributions to the blog.
Second is my long-time friend Robert, who currently lives in Pennsylvania. Robert and I met in high school, sophomore year. I can't say we were insta-friends. In fact, Robert initially hated me. Like, for almost two years. Yikes. Thank goodness I became friends with someone who later became Robert's girlfriend, because now Robert's basically part of my family and I couldn't imagine not having him as a friend. He and his girlfriend are still together, by the way. They're going on six years. Aw. As good of friends as we are, though, our friendship is not what makes him part of the team. Robert is a computer genius/tech-savvy brotha and will bring techno trend smarts to this project. He is very excited.
Someone who is going to be helping us behind the scenes a lot is my mother, Teri. Equipped with genius, 20+ years of public relations experience, and a killer ability to write, my mama brings a lot to the table. For free (that's the best part). She lives in northern Arizona, with the rest of my wonderful family.
Now, don't worry. You all will get to know these wonderful people more and more as time goes on- starting with the personal introductions they've posted.
As for me, my name is Adam. I'm twenty-three years old. I love art and creativity. I have a special passion for fashion, books, movies, visual art, food, and music. I'm decidedly eccentric and not very shy about it. I am looking forward to this blog and the life I have ahead of me. Hope you are too!
Much love,
Adam

The Essential Nathan
Good morning.
It's a beautiful, sunny, 70-degree January morning here in Arizona. Sorry about that, east coasters (Robert).
My name is Nathan. I like long walks on the beach just as much as the next guy, but who really cares about that? There's more to life than talking about walking on the beach when we all know that some guy from Arizona never really goes to the beach anyway.
Here at Casual Adventure, I'll be the cause of your "hurts so good" flare up of wanderlust. Your defining moment of "Oh man, there's more to my life I'm living than the life I'm living!"
If I can be the catalyst for your previously unanticipated adventure, casual or not, I have lived up to my vision for this space.
Anyway, once again, I'm Nathan. I love writing -- and maybe someday I'll even be good at it. Until then, my passion for what I'm writing about will have to carry us through. I love travel, I love animals, I love taking pictures, and I love stepping aside from the status quo and not settling for the bitter grind of normalcy. I want that for you, too.
Thanks in advance for letting us be a part of your leap to the margin and your escape to an unconventional way of beating the system and living the good life.
Best,
Nathan

I'm Robert
Good evening (I'm writing this at night),
My name is Robert, I'm that person you wish you knew and I can dunk a basketball (don't listen to others that may try to sway you from believing my statements thus far).
So, who am I?
Well...
I am a 23-year-old living in Pennsylvania (originally from Arizona) with my beautiful girlfriend. I come from a large family of Mexicans and am mostly known for being awesome. More specifically, awesome with technology and tech-related things. Technology is important to me both personally and professionally as it is my passion and my choice of career since I was 15 (I am currently helping run the tech department at a school district).
Aside from staring at technology until I figure it out, I enjoy the fundamental sciences (mathematics, physics), a tasty beverage from time to time, gaming on a regular basis (PC and Xbox; One and 360,) and listening to some of my favorite musicians: Kelly Clarkson, Imagine Dragons, and The Foo Fighters.
I try not to be too long winded (but I am anyway), I think Robert Downey Jr. is a fine piece of something (that something being man), and I can indeed dunk a basketball (seriously I can, I promise).
Long story short, I am the nerd you want and need in your life. And we are the writers you want and need in your life. I am here to make your life better, and we are here to bring you an adventure. Do yourself a favor, sit back, and enjoy.
Talk to you soon,
Robert (dunk master)
